What Rachel’s Reading Right Now: April 2014

By  |

What with Kelly moving across the country and myriad of other things going on in both of our lives, here’s a simple post about the stuff I’m reading lately.

Storykiller

Storykiller

Storykiller by Kelly Thompson

I highlighted Storykiller in one of our Let’s Kickstart posts, and it’s been a fun read. The prose doesn’t live up to what I expected after reading Thompson’s previous novel, The Girl Who Would Be King, but the hero’s journey story of Tessa and her comrades is a wonderful form of escapism. (I’m so excited for my hardcover copy to show up it’s going to be so beautiful omg omg omg.)

Storykiller is available for purchase on Amazon Kindle.

Theodora: Empress of Byzantium

Theodora: Empress of Byzantium

Theodora: Empress of Byzantium by Paolo Cessareti

Theodora is one of my favorite historical figures. We don’t know much about her beyond Procipious’ biased The Secret History, but Cessareti does his best to paint a more neutral view of her life and actions, and he does it in a manner that is not your typical dry historical narrative without flying off into the types of fantasy the novels about her do.

Theodora: Empress of Byzantium is available in ebook and hardcover formats.

Wreck This Journal: Expanded Edition by Keri Smith

Well, not so much as reading as working on. I love these kinds of activity books and it goes with me everywhere. Some people have some really cool ideas for theirs, and that’s only from a cursory glance at the Google Image search.

Wreck This Journal is available in a few different hard copies and also as an iOS app.
