Nerdy Crafting is Cool: Final Fantasy Edition

By  |

I’m replaying Final Fantasy XIII. No, I don’t know why. These things just happen. But whenever I play a Final Fantasy game, no matter how often I shout “THAT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE” or “CAN I PLEASE JUST GET A CHOCOBO ALREADY”, I end up a little nostalgic for the franchise.

Here are some really awesome Final Fantasy-inspired crafts I’ve rounded up for those days when you can’t find your copy of Final Fantasy IV (including the fifty million remakes) or you’ve hit that dumb Mecha Pope boss and you need to step back before you lob a controller at your TV.

Which is totally possible. Mecha Pope is a jerkbutt.

If you can crochet you can make this adorable Black Mage by Leslie Jenkins of Lens Love Crochet. It’s cute, it’s free, and when you get cold at night he can cast Firaga on you. Well maybe not on you. Maybe beside you in a fire-safe location.

Speaking of Black Mages…holy moly, if you’re a quilter you really can’t pass up this free pattern by Craftster user StephaniePrice. Did I mention it’s free? Because for the cost of materials you can have an heirloom quilt that you’ll actually keep for yourself because your kids can’t appreciate this majesty. You’re taking this one to the nursing home with you.

From Etsy shop Newfangled Threads, a pun worthy of Cloud “Let’s Mosey” Strife. The only thing more appropriate might be “Dumbapples.”

I’ve never been very good at papercrafting, but man, these free, super-detailed models by Ninjatoes make me want to try again. And again. And again. Until I run out of printer ink and my hands are covered in a thousand tiny paper cuts.

Do you know how much I hate Tonberries? The answer is not at all because even when they’re ruthlessly slaughtering my party they’re just so cute. This crocheted version just makes him an even more adorable foe. Find him in Natalie Bates’s Final Fantasy Plushies ebook alongside a chocobo and a moogle.

Final Fantasy Monopoly Pattern, $15.00

And finally, a Final Fantasy version of Monopoly by Made by Jade Crafts, all ready for you to cross stitch. I have no idea how long this would take. Weeks? Months? Centuries? Who cares, it’s got a Cactuar on the Go square. I’m in.

My friend has an Etsy store where she sells a few Final Fantasy things, like this Vivi print she made me for my birthday last year:

She also has a Kefka and a moogle print, and is working on a Moogle paper-doll!
