Bitches Get Stuff Done: App Round-up

By  |

I never make New Years resolutions, but I can’t fault others for them, and this article is also a sort of “how Rachel and Kelly get stuff done for PvP.” Two birds, one stone! Any apps I mention here I will try to make sure are available on both iOS and Android.

Zombies, Run!

Have you noticed that we really like zombies? Because we’re totally into zombies. Zombies, Run! is a fitness app that intersperses a (really, really awesome) story in between your own music and zombie hordes while you run, jog, bike, etc. There’s even a 5k Training app with a unique story to help get you in shape to outrun those undead swarms and build up your mythos of ZR. Now go exercise and have a good time doing it.

Pink Pad

I’ll be honest: I’m really forgetful. I’m almost positive now as an adult that it’s because of Inattentive ADHD, but before I had a cell phone with a reliable calendar I was the worst at keeping appointments. What does this have to do with Pink Pad? Uh. Well. Remember how I said I was forgetful? That applied to menstruation, too. For awhile I was just sticking memos to myself in my iPhone’s calendar under “Shark Week,” but that again required me to remember to do it. Pink Pad will average out your flow and send you alerts reminding you when you’re due (you can set these up), as well keep track of when you’re extra fertile if that’s something you care to know about for babymaking reasons. Basically, this sounds so dumb but it’s so incredibly useful.

Wunderlist

My favorite to-do list was Astrid, but that got shut down some time ago. Wunderlist has happily usurped that position by allowing me to set repeating events and collab with Kelly on when we need to get stuff done for the site!

Unfuck Your Habitat

UfYH is a no-bullshit method to getting stuff done. The site gives excellent advice on how to help manage your time, how to not marathon and burn yourself out, to stop making excuses, and — most importantly — to be proud of your accomplishments. The app contains it’s own To-Do list as well as the 20-10 timed challenges.

Dropbox

If you’re not using something like Dropbox yet I don’t know how to help you. I have accumulated up to 12GB of free space over the years (as a reference, you start with 2GB) and I don’t know what I would do without it.

I think that sums up my favorite Get Stuff Done apps. What about you, readers?

Purple-haired Pepper Potts.

Re: Zombies, Run!, I’m also enjoying their new app The Walk. It’s kind of a step-counter you leave on the entire time you’re out and about. Each milestone unlocks new content. I’m not that far in yet (I keep forgetting to turn it on) but it seems to have another Six to Start solid story.

I have not even heard of this, but I totally know I’ll forget to use it. Or cry as it destroys my phone’s battery life.

Supposedly it’s optimized to not use much of your phone battery life! I haven’t noticed a difference so far.

Astrid still works! The online component is gone now (which I prefer as linking it to my email caused more problems than it solved). The shut down notices made it sound like it was completely done-zo but it was just the online server that went. The app itself is still fully functional. Aside from the online component. Or, for those who likes the Astrid UI, there’s a new app called Tasks that literally ripped the source code from Astrid.

Pink Pad sounds interesting but what can it do for ladies like me with a period more irregular than Joaquin Phoenix’s acting career?

Yeah, but I need the online component so Kelly and I can remind each other “HEY SO AND SO’S POST NEEDS TO GET PREPPED” ._. my life. it is hard.

…………… probably explode. I’d like to see it try to calculate when it thinks your period will be.

I joined. It says I’m 6 days late. Hilarious.
