Knitting isn’t just scratchy sweaters and garter-stitch scarves. Want your very own Dwarven battle bonnet? What about a Wonder Woman sweater? Congrats! The internet has your back!

I’ve gathered a few nerdy knits that might be fun for fellow enthusiasts. Of course, there’s so many out there I could probably do an entire series spotlighting projects…don’t tempt me. Click on the pictures to find buying options.

The Unofficial Harry Potter Knits, $14.99

I secretly believe that the pursuit of Hogwarts House Scarves led a thousand fangirls to take up knitting. Capitalizing on the continuing interest in this franchise, crafting heavyweight Interweave recently published The Unofficial Harry Potter Knits. It’s got some really elegant updates on the house scarves, as well as some beautiful patterns like the Albanian Forest Mitts pictured above. There’s also a great interview with Stephanie Dosen, the insanely talented and whimsical singer-songwriter-designer behind Tiny Owl Knits. If you’re a Lit or TV nerd, you might also like Interweave’s Jane Austen Knits series or the Unofficial Downton Abbey Knits.

I wish I could knit. I have tried to learn so many times and my hands are just incapable of doing it.

I understand completely. You want me to stitch something? Hand-sew buttons? No problem. I just do not have the patience for knitting or crocheting. Which is sad because I want to make all the cute yarn things. :(
